I know I've discussed the many uses of vintage doors with you before but I couldn't resist sharing this little goodie from Apartment Therapy. 

So this is what love feels like.

Hey y'all...my name is Jessica from 

and I absolutely LOVE abode...

LOVE IT!!!

I found this old window frame there a while back...

It was pretty beat up and had no glass....
but I knew I could ROCK it out

Had the Boo~Bear drill some holes at the bottom...

Sanded it down..got all the glue and goop off...

And, of course, gave it a coat of spray paint...

Sanded it a little...

cuz y'all know I have to DISTRESS everything

Now for the fun part...
The memo board

I bought thick, black matting...as you can see I had some extra.

So I traced the window frame on the matting and then cut it with my rotary cutter.

Cut some craft batting to size and stapled it to the matting.

Next up ~ the fabric...

I cut the fabric to size (a little bigger than the board) and then folded it over...I started with a straight edge then the corner (and so on and so on)

To fold the corners, I simply folded the corner in like so....

And then folded it over like so...

And stapled it down...

{YES, that is my RED STAPLER}

The ribbon was next...

I started with an X 

{pinned them down at each corner}

and continued to lay ribbon out 6 inches apart

{pinning each piece down as I went}

After all the ribbon was laid out 

{you guessed it} 

I stapled it

{note that I stapled the ribbon from the front and then from the back}

Then I simply nailed it to the back of the window frame...

{ oh ya...and attached the knobs }

Shutter Up!

Hey there Abode shoppers!

Can I just tell you how excited I am to be here today?

Quick intro: My name is Char. You can find me most days at Crap I’ve Made. I’m a Salt Lake City area lifer. I love fabric and old stuff. I hate pudding and hugs.

The header on my blog says “sometimes it’s amazing and sometimes it’s just crap”. I’m mentioning that because my project went through several stages of crap and it’s not at all what I had in mind. And I ripped off the awesome wallpaper in a fit of insanity. Don’t you worry…I’ve got other plans for that wallpaper, and maybe they’ll even let me back to show you.

So, if you’re a regular Abode shopper, I’m sure you already know this. If you’re not, pay close attention. There’s a room way back in the back full of all kinds of random junk. Go to that room and start digging. And don’t wear tippy heels.

What are you looking for?

Shutters.

I LOVE SHUTTERS!

I used to have an awkward hole above my fireplace where random neighbor children would play. (OK, so the one on the left is mine.)

I suppose I could have put a TV up there, but then I would have had to listen to it. So, what’s a girl to do?

Shutter up, that’s what.

These particular shutters started out like this:

I removed the hardware and spray painted them Key Lime. Then I roughed them up and used a glaze to tone down the crazy.

They provide a great backdrop for my obsessive mantel decorating tendencies. See?

So, what if you don’t find a whole set of shutters the perfect height and just find one or two instead?

I picked up these old drapery hooks at Abode:

They sat perfectly on top of the slats of my shutter.

You could use them for keys:

or to hang some little buckets on:

I think this would be fabulous in an office holding supplies or in a kitchen with potted herbs. What about one big bucket in the center with some sort of flowers? Cute, right?

So, go to the back room at Abode.

Find some shutters.

Don’t be afraid to paint them.

Hang stuff on them.

Live happily ever after.

Shabby Blogs Loves Abode!

If you're a blogger and you haven't been living in a cave for the last couple of years you've probably heard of Shabby Blogs.  And if you're anything like us, you've used and loved their backgrounds, headers, and doo-dads. 

Well, not too long ago the lovely and talented creator of Shabby Blogs, Megan, visited Abode and fell in love with a little set of vintage cards. 

Most of us would have taken the cards home and sent them to friends on special occasions, but not Megan.  No, she turned them into digital art and is offering said art FOR FREE on her website! 

It put a gigantic smile on my face to visit the website and see a background named after Abode!

Girls Night In.

I'm dreaming of the night when I can go out to dinner with my friends and not be so weighed down with winter layers that I look like a marshmallow.  So, I decided to host a little girls night in where we can dream of summer and wear little cocktail dresses and I'll blast the heat so high we'll feel like we're in Jamaica. 

If you like this idea than you'll love our vintage cocktail dresses.  Perfect for a night out or a fancy night in. 

I'll put some Pink Martini on the record player and make some delicious appetizers like these crab cakes from Paula Deen.  Yum. 

Here's to hoping the groundhog was spot on this year.
