More Market Madness

We're pleased to welcome the creations of JB's Colors to our May market.

All of their beads and pendants are hand blended colors that compliment each other to achieve balance and harmony. They start with a focal color and add different shades and hues. After curing each is sanded to it's final shape and a coat of varnish is added to complete. Visit their etsy shop here.

A New Use for Old Wallpaper

Hey there Abode shoppers!

It's Char from Crap I've Made again.  It's good to be back!  I'm excited to show you another project made from my Abode finds.

Last time I was here, I talked about shutters.  I also mentioned that I had picked up this beauty:

D7K_4431

It’s a wallpaper sample book (and I've been told there are several more at Abode right now).  At first look, it was frightening.

May11

But, the more I thought about it, the more I thought I could make something fabulous.  The result?

Wallpaper Pennant Bunting

D7K_4430

Supplies:

Wallpaper
Double fold bias tape
Sewing machine
Pennant template (you can make it whatever size you want, but I’m including mine for those who are feeling especially lazy)

I’m sure you’ve seen this general concept before, so this will be brief.

Cut out pennant shapes from your wallpaper.

D7K_4382

Bias tape has one side slightly shorter than the other.

D7K_4383

You want the short side on top.

I like to leave about a 4” tail on the bias tape for hanging purposes.

Stitch the pennant pieces inside the bias tape.  I used a long straight stitch but a zig zag would be cute, too.

D7K_4387

When you get to the end of that piece, put another one in.  Continue until you reach your desired length.

D7K_4402

D7K_4393

Add another one, if you want.

D7K_4409

The perfect finishing touch?

D7K_4423

This (FREE!) printable from the girls at eighteen25.  It comes in a bunch of other colors, too.

‘Scuse me whilst I go stare at my mantel for a bit.

Feature Friday

As many of you may know, Abode's first market of fabulous fleas begins May 21st.

So.  Excited.  Can't.  Communicate.

So between now and then I'll be featuring some of our vendors so that ya'll can get just as stoked as I am.

First off we have Kristy of Scrub Me, Sugar!  Kristy is a master esthetician who has always been interested in beauty and skin care.  When Kristy found the perfect solution to her own dry, itchy skin, she knew she had to share it!

Her scrubs come in three fragrances and are named for her family.   Precious, right?  So make sure you mark your calendars for May 21st if you'd like to come snag some of these locally made skin care products!

Oh, and you should probably add her to your etsy circle...just sayin.

I'd also like to do a little feature for one of our favorite Utah bloggers, and Abode VIP-er, Jessica of myworldmadebyhand.  She made it to the top 5 of  Vintage Revivals Epic Room Makeover Giveaway and needs your help to win!

Come on kids, let's help a girl out!  Go here to read through the pleas of the top 5 and cast your vote.

Lotsa love,

Before and After

This beyond-words before and after comes to us via the talented and oh so charming Leon Matterson.  An interior designer and Abode shopper, Leon scooped up this damaged but darling Louis XV style chair at Abode for the jaw dropping price of $10.

We were just dying for someone to see its potential and Leon did.

Speechless?  You're not the only one.  If you would like to contact Mr Matterson about his design services please just let us know and we'd be happy to give you his info.  You'd be in good hands.

Give O Give!

In honor of my favorite sister's birthday this month she is doing a give away here on our blog!  Her company, Mon Amie jewelry is a small but mighty force of beauty.  Shireen carefully constructs her collection, each treasure a thoughtful production.

In her own words:

"Mon Amie jewelry is a one woman show, I have been designing jewelry for several years, I started out making beaded bracelets, earrings and necklaces. I have expanded my jewelry line to add curated pieces soldered pendants and vintage button necklaces. I continually look for new jewelry ideas that I can add to my repertoire. My inspirations are vintage pieces and I love searching through estate and tags sales for just the right object. I also love the grace and beauty of birds and I incorporate them into my jewelry as often as possible."

and now a d r u m  r o l l  p l e a s e

One of her pieces can be yours, it's simple:
