Get a room!
I have been AWOL traveling for my day job. I used to travel every week and I had it down to a science. Living out of a suitcase gets old FAST and I decided to get a life and have a hobby or 10. Innocently, I went to the airport checked my bags, donated a kidney and headed through security smooth as silk right? UHHH, not so fast. I went through the Jason Chaffetz nudie naked Boy's Life secret X-Ray scanner, swish slam and out the other side. A TSA employee shook her head sadly and said, "ma'am, you have lots of loose squares", then the next thing I know a giant woman with gloves snapped and ready asks me if I want a private room. Nah, how bad can it be? She asked me to stand with my thighs not touching, (they haven't been that distant from each other since pre-puberty), and arms outstretched, palms to heaven.
After what seemed like an eternity of fondling she said I could go, no kiss, no flowers. Next time I'll get a room.

Hippy happy fun fun fun
Saturday was a basket of fun! Tons of smashing sisters from the alt conference descended on abode and it was fast and furious. A chance to see friends from last year and meet new talent. These women have taste and style and they're not afraid to use it! Vintage clothes were flying off the racks and out the door!
Looking forward to next year and a whole new adventure!

What is your magic to beat the January blues?

wOrD oF tHe WeEk
the night is dark and drizzling, the street is lit only by one street lamp that flickers off and on. the gritty sound of the man's shoes and the flapping of a shopping bag caught on a utility meter are the only sounds. the man walks hesitantly up to the door and knocks twice - 2 sharp raps.
The window slides open no more than an inch and the man says "Frost" in a small girlish whisper, "Frost", he repeats a little louder. The window slides shut and the bottom half of the dutch door opens, the man ducks and enters and the fun begins . . .
abode's word of the week is FROST. Use the word frost and take 25% off one item of your choice!

Recipe from here
PRETZEL TOFFEE CHOCOLATE BARK
Ingredients:
4 cups of dark or milk chocolate (I used Lindt couverture chocolate, but any nice chocolate will work!)
1 cup of pretzel bits, crushed into pieces (I used my hands to crush them like a female wrestler)
1/4 cup (or more, to taste) of toffee bits (I used Hershey's Skor bits, which I believe is called Heath, in America)
Make it!
1. Melt the chocolate until smooth and beautiful.
2. Pour onto parchment papered large baking sheet. Spread with spatula to even it out on pan.
3. Sprinkle pretzels and toffee bits all over it!
4. Chill in the freezer for 30 minutes until set, or in the fridge for 1 hour.
5. Remove from freezer and chop with a knife or break up into pieces with clean hands!
Note: Keep pieces refrigerated until serving time. If giving as a gift, make sure to let the giftee know to keep the bark in the fridge!
Giving these to the neighbors (if there's any left) - shhhh don't tell!

Please have snow and mistletoe and presents on the tree
Presenting the best idea of the season! This lovely lady searches far and wide to find that perfect container to pack treats and gifts for shipping. She snapped up two vintage hat boxes, now if I could only find a way to sneak on her Christmas list . . .

Holy cannoli
Now that I have your attention I can barely contain myself - and if I keep this up nothing will be able to contain me either!
I'm a sucker for great chocolate. Not good chocolate, not passable (think grocery store aisle fare) chocolate, but GREAT innovative concoctions.
In my quest for the local, secondhand and handmade this year I found Daniel's Fine Chocolates 4699 S Holladay Blvd. They are a family run venture in the former location of Nest and they are definitely worth the trip (stocking stuffers anyone?). They have things I have never seen before like gummy flowers and butterflies and chocolate dipped Gran Marnier dark chocolate pecans - OK stop it or I won't be able to sleep tonight.
worth the trip? yay, verily

See Linda
See Linda's kitchen awesomeness
Love Linda
Love Linda's style
Love that Linda shops local and is entered in a big, big way in our shop local challenge!
Here is what she said:
"The only way to keep within your holiday budget is to Shop LOCAL. At Adode I recently came in and complimented Steffie on how cute her merchandising arrangements are! I was able to see, as well as reach, to see items I was interested in. I love the kitchenalia section in the back...she may have shifted it all around by now, who knows? I usually come away with a little kitchen bowl, plate, or vintage cook bowl, or set of salt and paper shakers! Thanks to abode for keeping it simple to shop vintage, and to re-use, re-cycle, and live "green" in an every increasingly commercial society!
Any number of cookbooks on my metal kitchen cupboard came from Sugar House's Abode. They seem to have a never-ending supply of 1920s through 1960s cookbooks that are entertaining, and frankly, some of the recipes are pretty weird! See for yourself..like canned white asparagus spears in tomato aspic topped with Miracle Whip Dressing. Uh huh!"
Revel in Linda's fabulous finds here
Thanks Linda!
