don't know nothin' bout birthing babies

one of my very bestest friends in the whole wide world gave birth to a baby girl!  Her 4th baby and 2nd girl.  since I have never had the opportunity to have a child birth seems like an exciting, loud, painful miracle to me (OK, maybe I've watched too many episodes of TLC's A Baby Story).  The biggest decision for me is what to get the new one that is unique and useful all at once.

MARKET for a good cause

We have a new vendor this MARKET - Hailey.  She makes cupcakes and diaper cakes (OK, don't get confused here).  She has more on her mind than just typical MARKET fun . . . here is what she said:

"My husband and I are trying to adopt a baby, and so I have a darling friend who suggested doing a fundraiser/boutique for us. She heard about the flea market at Abode, and called me to tell me what a great location it would be for it. I have friends and family members all making things to donate to help us raise money, and everything that we sell will have one of our pass-a-long cards with our contact information on it, so if anybody knows anyone who is pregnant and considering adoption can contact us!



My sister is the mastermind behind all the darling hair clippies and wipe cases. I have enjoyed baking as long as I can remember, and I love doing anything crafty!


I am really excited to come to the flea market and get the word out!"

ok, now we both have that song stuck in our heads!  things are fast and furious here and I thought you needed a little taste of   . . . whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah

pack a lunch - this could take a while!

my beloved and I snuck (sneaked??) off for a quick get away last weekend . . . Jackson Hole, Teton Village and Yellowstone.  On the way we passed a HUGE building with those two words that mean so much - second hand - of course I screamed STOP!!!

Now, some of you might feel like abode is a little, well, should we say, snug?  A lot of cool stuff packed into our groovy space . . . but you have never seen a place like this.  Literally rooms and rooms of stuff to look at (and buy of course).  Vada Smith is an extraordinary lady and we became fast friends.  She packed a box of goodies for me to bring to abode and sell.  If you find yourself in Afton Wyoming you simply must pay her a visit - 656 Washington

do you remember when your dad used to say something so embarrassingly stupid that you thought you would stop breathing forever?  he would say it a lot and laugh at himself while you tried to shrink to the size of a pea, and you definitely had "that look" on your face (the one your mother swore to slap off?).  so now that I'm fifty ( I like writing it out much better than mere digits), I have one of those sayings that I say every year at this time, I know my friends cringe and they are probably thrilled that I am on vacation this week to spare them!

Here goes , , , don't forget to pick up a fifth on the 3rd for the 4th!

i waited 48 years to get married and tomorrow we celebrate our 2nd anniversary and already I'm a widow!  "Football" did it.  in the global sense of the word.  If i time it just right I can catch my beloved couch surfing, shouting unmentionable words and squeezing my face in jubilation - those bruises you see are brought to you by FOOTBALL!!

I dream that one day I would have a real-life designer come into my life and breathe new life into my funny old house.  Freshen up the colors, make it look more spacious by moving the sad old sofas and drench us in the hot hip colors.  Our house will be so divine we will squabble no more, look perfect when we wake and be able to abide our funny old house for many more years to come! 

(sigh) it is a dream for now but when I look at Kirsten Krason's inspirational design ideas at 6th Street Design School I see a dream into action!  She is fresh, brave and thoughtful in her style - you should check her out and also see what she wrote about abode . . .
